Dusk In the High Desert

(On personified film)

Catch the moon lodging
her pale glow at the nape
of evening's neck.

She watches the sprinklers
spin the garden greener.
Lettuce, sweet pepper
melon and rhubarb leaves
sparkle beneath the sun --
flower stalks that tilt
their heads westward to hail
the end of day, the gong
of a lowered star.

Feel the silence cooling
as emerald fires draw
the Hitchcock blonde, cool goddess
who does not sweat in the desert.

Her highness mingles
with cactus and mountains shadowed
beyond the terrace wall.
She floats in from nowhere
but still, it becomes somewhere,
a ruins of stone and dust somewhere

you might gamble away
your time or soul.
