She kneels on the mountain
playing a harp,
her hair dark as nightfall
clinging in long stillness
to the east.
Fingers drift
along moonlit strings
and pull a slower rhythm
through the frame of time.
Her song
summons the Winter darkness
and as she plucks each chord
a snow flake spins
against the shroud
of twilight stained with shadows:
a lean stag
grafted to the pines,
a sparrow to the hook
of a leafless twig.
